corners

It is the ropes that I backed myself into that I launch from.

Cramped circumstances that offer leverage;
when I readjust and look at things directly,
from a right angle.

Head atilt;
eyes squinted,
and breath steadied to better judge open angles.

It was the corners I painted
myself into,
that led me to understand that footprints actually mar nothing;
Unmarked surfaces are dangerous to my legacy.

Two walls meeting and greeting
allow me to feel things,
I can’t sometimes see from the secure middle-ground.

They brace my back and let me know in which direction
to move.
